Every April, Geneva tells the watch trade what story it wants to believe. This year, the story is confidence. Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026 runs from April 14 through April 20 with 65 exhibiting brands — the biggest edition ever — and the fair again puts the industry's biggest names in front of the global trade at the exact moment the market wants a reason to feel constructive.
The hard data gives that story real support. Swiss watch exports for February 2026 came in at CHF 2.2 billion, a 9.2 percent year-over-year increase, with exports to the US up 26.8 percent. That rebound matters because it came after a softer start to the year and ahead of the latest round of geopolitical pressure. Dealers should read that print as a genuine signal of demand in strong brands and proven references — but not as permission to buy everything with a booth and a press release.
Rolex: Oyster Perpetual 41 Becomes the Statement Piece
Rolex put out a refreshed Oyster Perpetual 41 alongside a new multicoloured Oyster Perpetual 36 and a series of core-reference refinements. The OP 41 is the one that matters most for dealers — a cleaner, more confident version of the reference, and 41mm is where the demand has been sitting for the past two years. The OP 36 with the playful dial treatment is a secondary market wildcard.
Rolex built a 7 percent average price increase into 2026, with gold models up roughly 9 percent and steel up around 5 percent. Compared to end-of-2024 pricing, gold references are up 20 percent cumulatively and steel is up 10 percent. That structural retail increase is one reason pre-owned has held firm even as some new-release momentum has slowed.
Audemars Piguet: The Neo Frame Jumping Hour Is the Show Winner
In its first official appearance at Watches and Wonders, Audemars Piguet did not play it safe. The Neo Frame Jumping Hour is the piece getting the most attention, and multiple outlets have already called it the best overall release of the show. It is not a Royal Oak, and that is exactly the point — AP is using the Geneva stage to argue that the brand's range is broader than the model that currently carries most of the demand.
AP's participation has a second-order effect. The concentrated retailer audience at Watches and Wonders means AP will have had more structured conversations with its global distribution network this week than in any previous year. Expect allocation policies and retail relationships to shift in small but meaningful ways over the summer.
Cartier: The Santos-Dumont Mesh and the Roadster Revival
Cartier delivered two of the stronger stories of the week. The new Santos-Dumont on a gold mesh bracelet — 394 individual links, inspired by the brand's 1920s made-to-measure pieces — changes the entire value proposition of the reference. On a strap, the Santos-Dumont has always been an elegant, deliberately restrained watch. On the mesh, it reads as proper high-jewelry watchmaking. The demand curve for this one is going to be steeper than most people expect.
The Roadster revival is the other Cartier story. It brings back a curved, automotive-inspired silhouette that Cartier has not really had in the current lineup — a statement that the maison's design vocabulary has more range than just Tank, Santos, and Panthère. It arrives as Gen Z demand for Cartier is rising quickly: Chrono24 and Fratello data has the brand's share of Gen Z watch purchases up more than fourfold in seven years, from 1.7 percent to 6.8 percent.
A. Lange and Söhne, IWC, Panerai, Grand Seiko
Lange unveiled the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar "Lumen" in platinum — the most ambitious Lumen piece the brand has released. It will not move huge volume, but it will anchor collector conversation around Lange for the rest of the year.
IWC delivered the technical swing of the show with the Ingenieur Automatic 42 in dark olive green ceramic. The brand completely reworked its ceramic process, and the layered satin-brushed, polished, and sandblasted finish on the same case is genuinely new. 18-karat 5N gold crown, Armour Gold bezel screws, IWC 82110 calibre with Pellaton winding. This is the release most likely to reposition the Ingenieur reference as a legitimate Royal Oak and Nautilus alternative in the mid-five-figure range.
Panerai went material-first with the Submersible Navy SEALs Afniotech Experience PAM01089 — the world's first watch case made from 95 percent hafnium, a material used in nuclear reactor neutron control, aeronautics, and aerospace. It is a small-run piece, and the technical story is the sell.
Grand Seiko introduced the new Spring Drive Calibre 9RB1, hand-assembled at the Shinshu Watch Studio, with ±20 seconds annual accuracy. The Ushio dive watch uses the new movement in a smaller, cleaner case format.
The Macro Backdrop Is Not Clean
Reuters reported this week that luxury brands have been hit by weaker Middle East shopping flows and airport-retail disruption tied to regional conflict. Hermès said Middle East sales fell, and travel-retail weakness hurt broader luxury sector momentum. Watches do not trade in a vacuum. Even when the ultra-high end stays resilient, tourism, air traffic, and regional spending patterns affect what moves at retail and what gets reordered downstream.
The COSC used the week to unveil a new full-watch certification program that goes beyond movement-only testing to include wear simulation, magnetism resistance, and power reserve checks. That change will filter into marketing language from certified brands over the next 12 months — another category-level tailwind for the Swiss industry's positioning.
The Dealer Takeaway
Secondary market pricing tends to start reacting to Watches and Wonders releases within days. The strongest early signals are the Cartier Santos-Dumont mesh, the AP Neo Frame Jumping Hour, the IWC green ceramic Ingenieur, and the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41. On the higher end, the Lange Lumen will lock in collector attention for months.
So yes, Geneva matters. But in this market, confidence only deserves to last if the sell-through follows it. The right buy is still more important than the newest buy.
